Common Techniques used in Thriller movies - Mise En Scene

Props and Costume
Costume plays a big part in defining a Thriller film. As we can see here in this screenshot from Se7en , Morgan Freeman is wearing typical investigator/detective clothing. This tells the audience what type of film it is and makes it serious.
Props are very important when defining a Thriller film, the technique of using certain props is commonly found in Thriller films. Here we see a dead body from Se7en which tells the audience that a murder has happened and it is a crime scene. Crime and investigations are a typical plot for Thriller movies.

Lighting and Setting
We have noticed that in Thriller films that Setting is very important as it can add to the mystery of the place. In the Da Vinci Code we saw that the movie is set in the Louvre Museum at night time where no one is around as the place is shut. The lighting is minimal as to add to the creepiness of the person chasing the character.
