Common Techniques used in Thriller movies - Sound

Ambient Sounds
We have noticed the importance of ambient sound in Thriller movies, this adds to the setting and atmosphere of the film. Even small sounds such as birds or sirens in the background can add to the mystery of the plot, police sirens tell the audience that it is a crime scene and there are police investigating. In the movie Se7en we saw an example of this when we heard police sirens outside of the apartment, this tells the audience that it is definitely a crime scene.

Musical Score
We have noticed that adding a musical score in certain scenes of Thriller movies can add the effect of intensity or mystery. Low pitch musical scores can emphasise the eerieness of a particular setting and the loneliness of a character. A high pitch musical score can emphasise the danger or action of a particular scene. Here in this clip from Se7en we can hear soft low music that has been added to give us a mysterious effect, music can have a big effect on the audience and this is put to use in this  scene.

Dialogue
Dialouge in a Thriller film can be used in different ways to achieve an effect. Dialogue can sometimes be cut out to achieve mystery or it can be amplified to show danger or aggression. Here in this clip from Se7en we can hear Brad Pitt shouting at Kevin Spacey , we can tell from his speech that he is angry and wants Spacey to stop . There is a danger element to this scene and it is obvious to the reader.
